Community Postcards is an outdoor photography exhibit by The West Toronto Photography Group, in partnership with StreetARToronto (StART).

Join us at the CNE this year for our Community Postcards photography Exhibit, it will be one of the largest outdoor photography exhibits in Canadian history with a 130 - 4ft x 8 ft panels of the show spread over 1.3 + kms of fencinging through out the CNE grounds during the CNE.

The exhibit explores what the Decolonization of art shows can be by de-centering the narrative which romanticizes Indigenous beliefs and surface culture (indigenization). Our shows give artists the opportunity to further the conversation on the re-shaping and re-imagining of public spaces and cities, while exhibiting their creativity and sharing their work in our communities without fitting into pre-existing restrictions of what an Indigenous-led art show should look like. We advocate for the deconstruction of settler-imposed systems that continue to oppress Black, Brown, and Indigenous people.

“Photography can be a catalyst for changes in communities, and a form of communication that flows across language barriers.” - Phil Sutherland - Curator of Community Postcards

Community Postcards

com·mu·ni·ty - What is a community?

Is it a just unified body of individuals: such as the people with common interests living in a particular area?

Is it a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society?

Or is it more?

We are exploring the many facets of community, its meaning and importance, through the focused lens of community artists and their work in the City of Toronto.
